Our Vision

Honoring God by modeling Christ, thereby bringing our lives into harmony with Him and with each other in loving fellowship, and as a devout worshipping body; which cultivates an environment where people are discipled, nurtured, equipped and then sent out to serve and share the redeeming love of Christ to a lost world.

Our Mission

Exalt the Savior, empower the saints, evangelize the world!

Our Aim

Excellence in Ministry

Pastor Matthews is a native Memphian who was educated in the public schools of Shelby County, Tennessee. He received his BS degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in June of 1969, M.Ed from the University of Memphis in December of 1974, and has done postgraduate studies at Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, Tennessee. His studies in religion and theology at Tennessee Baptist School of Religion (Bachelor of Theology), Mid-America Theological Seminary and Memphis Theological Seminary have attributed to his growth and development as a preacher / pastor.

With the exception of the period from September 1977 to August 1978, while serving as a Congressional Assistant, Pastor Matthews taught Music and English in the public schools of Memphis from October 1969 to June 2003.

In October 1990, Pastor Matthews was led by the Holy Spirit to accept his present assignment here at New Hope. Since his arrival, New Hope has grown by leaps and bounds – numerically and more importantly, spiritually. He has used his innovative style to revitalize existing ministries and his God-given wisdom to implement new ones. His love for the Lord’s people continues to be the driving force that motivates him to labor tirelessly in the vineyard. His spirit of commitment and dedication to excellence is evident in every aspect of his ministry. Like Paul, Pastor Matthews is pressing “toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

To say the least, it is evident that Pastor Matthews is blessed! His wife, Georgia (our lovely first lady), and their children are very supportive like other family members who take pride in his leadership and, consequently, make New Hope their church home.

“To God be the glory for the things He has done!”
